018Mental Health charity Recovery Enterprises are holding the inaugural sponsored ’RE:Cycle Ride’ cycle challenge on the 6th October with routes through the stunning Peak District landscape.

Recovery Enterprises, based in Sheffield, helps to support people with mental health needs to develop enterprising ideas to benefit their mental health and to enable them to fulfil their ambitions.

Event organiser Tom Newman says ”the bike ride will offer a challenge for all abilities with routes of 20, 60 and 100 miles, all taking in the beautiful Peak District scenery” Recovery Enterprises Development Manager, Sarah Proctor says “Cycling is a fantastic way of improving mental and physical health. This event is a great way to let people know about the work we do and to give them the opportunity to take part in something exciting for an innovative charity. We welcome cyclists to sign up enter the ride, to support a good cause and to show they are positive about mental health at the same”.

Recovery Enterprises acknowledge that being enterprising can help to improve people’s wellbeing and confidence in their own abilities, developing a sense of achievement.  The organisation is working with people in Sheffield on a variety enterprising projects such as the Oasis Gardening Service and the Creative Arts Support Team and supporting local entrepreneurs such as artisan crate makers; Hudson & General.

Andrew from Hudson & General describes the enterprise and the making of its products as ‘his medicine’. What started as a wooden crate making hobby, including design and making has now spiralled into selling bespoke items, made with love, care and real craftsmanship. Being enterprising brought together many of the positive elements that support mental health recovery and his newly found skill is now having a positive impact on Andrew’s life

The RE:Cycle Ride event is being supported by local organisations including Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Sheffield. Local businesses have also been quick to offer help for the event with JE James Cycles, Override Cycle Works and Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative  offering mechanical support and drinks for the riders during the event. Meanwhile, Human Studio, Seven Hills Photography, Cotswold Outdoor, Vertebrate Publishing and Taylor and Emmet LLP Solicitors have all jumped on board with donations or help in kind.

For information on the RE:Cycle Ride and to sign up go to www.recoveryenterprises.co.uk, entry closes on September 29th.
