  • Cotic Women of Steel/ Ride Sheffield Trail Day 16th October

    Ride Sheffield have joined up with Cotic Women of Steel to put on a women-only trail maintenance day on Blacka Moor on 16 October.

    The event is aimed at encouraging more women to learn about trail maintenance requirements and techniques and will hopefully (if we get enough interest / don’t scare everyone off on the first session!) be the first in a series.

    For this session, we will be working on Blacka Moor bridleways, repairing trails and improving drainage before the winter. We will also be looking at how bikes, horses and walkers use the trails to try to understand the best way to make the repairs work for everyone (so no, we won’t be building any gap jumps or kickers…)

    We will provide tools as well as some snacks too. But if you can bring your own drinks and dress appropriately for the work that would be great.

  • November Trail Day

    P1000023Our next trail day will be taking place on Sunday the 8th of November on Blacka Moor. We will be working on the Devils Elbow to make sure it can cope with the rigors of winter.

    We will be meeting at 10 am near the stables on Shorts Lane and will be working on the trail until approximately 2 pm. Lunch will be provided for all that attend thanks to Shore Lines. Please let us know if you plan to attend via the Facebook Event or by email at info@ridesheffield.org.uk

  • Digging Dates for your Diary

    547053_255934957830842_100002430187541_553432_1742469406_nIn the past we have been a bit short notice on our digging days, so from now on we will try to get dates in on a quarterly basis.

    We also want to be clear on what we do too. So if you seen that we are doing a Dig Day, that means we are working on bike specific trails. That will often mean more technical work and are a good way to learn your craft in trail work. These will usually be on the second saturday of the month. If we are doing a Trail Day that means we will be working on rights of way. This work may be done solely by ourselves or in partnership with the Wildlife Trust, Eastern Moors Partnership, SCC etc. (more…)

  • Blackamoor Permissive Bridleway

    The Blackamoor bridleway that runs down from the Stoney Ridge car park parallel with the Hathersage Road has been the subject of a winter closure for horses and cycles for the last two years.  Although the winter ban was a vital experiment, in many ways it has proved to be a blunt instrument that has at times verged on illogical. For example, during March when the trail was bone dry, we were prevented from riding on it.  Now, with the April showers in full swing, we are able to ride it again even though it’s a bog.  Having monitored the situation, the Sheffield Wildlife Trust and the Sheffield Rights of Way Team have noticed the inconsistency and decided to trial all year round use as from next winter.   • Blacka Trail Day this Saturday

    The Wildlife Trust are going to be up on Blacka this Saturday doing some maintainance to the bridleways up there – carrying out some repairs on the winter damaged Bridleways. After the great work that has been done by you lot over the past few trail days they are keen to get us on board again.

    The leaves might be changing, but the weather seems to be warming up, giving us awesome light to squeeze out those last in the light evening rides and a last taste of dust before everything all turns a bit damper.  Make the most of it while you can.
