Greno Updates – felling and entrance area
Double Greno news this week after a bit of a break. All the details are below but in short there is some felling to be done in the woods between now and Christmas, it’s pretty much all away from the bike tracks apart from a little around the bomb hole and edge of pub run where some of the trees susceptible to damage in high winds are being removed or protected.
The major felling works are at the north end of the woods away from the bike trails. The map below shows the areas in question.
The second piece of news is that the Wildlife Trust are starting to look at plans to develop the old stacking area opposite the current car park on Woodhead Road in to a car park and hub type area. Again the full details are below and they are welcoming input from people on the ideas being discussed.
Greno Woods Masterplan
Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust are currently working with consultants ECUS at Greno Woods to consider how we can make the most of our main entrance area on the Woodhead Road. In particular, we are looking at how the defunct wood drying area adjacent to the entrance could be re-deployed and are also considering the connectivity of our woodland with adjacent Wharncliffe and Wheata Woods.
This masterplan is being developed in response to issues such as lack of parking and other visitor facilities which were raised during previous public consultation.
As part of the master planning process, I invite all visitors to the woods to take part in our on-line consultation by going to www.wildsheffield.com and following the link to the consultation form.
I would also like to invite you to attend our drop-in meeting at the Reading Rooms, Grenoside, to comment on the draft proposals. This meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th November 7.30pm-9pm
Input from mountain bikers welcome and they’re keen to know what we think.
Hope everyone made the most of the last bits of British summertime this week, happy trails. Steve
