News – September 2011
The leaves might be changing, but the weather seems to be warming up, giving us awesome light to squeeze out those last in the light evening rides and a last taste of dust before everything all turns a bit damper. Make the most of it while you can.
So here is what is going on with Ride Sheffield at the moment…
Blacka Moor
Thanks to everyone who came up to dig last month, we had a turn out of about 20 to spend the day making improvements to the already excellent work that had been done by the Wildlife Trust.
In the week after the dig day it got a reasonable amount of rain down it and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Not only that but it seems to ride pretty well too. With just a few tweaks being needed to it to improve flow. Hopefully it should make Devils Gate (elbow) an all weather option now.
* Digging is just on specified digging days and on the bridleway. There has been a bit of digging in on the edges of the trail. Its great to have the change to work with the wildlife trust on this one, so please don’t jeopardize things. A bit like Sheep Skull, it’s a good change to preserve and improve awesome trails. Best make the most of it!
With regards to the tweaks we are having another dig day up there this Saturday (1st) from 10am. Details below
Here is all you need to know from the wildlife trust….
Thank you to everyone that helped at the last volunteer day working on Bridleway improvements on Devils Elbow and general path work around Lenny Hill. It was a very productive day. We are planning on continuing the work on Devils elbow again for the October volunteer day next Saturday 1st Oct.
Please can you meet us down at the sleeper bridge at the bottom of Devils Elbow just after 10am. Or we will be parking the van just near the shorts lane entrance if people would like to help carry to tools along at 10am. Parking is limited on Shorts Lane though so I would recommend parking at Strawberry Lane car park and walking down.
As usual we will bring tools, refreshments and gloves. Please give me a ring if you need more details,
Thanks,
