Cliffhanger 2013 – With Added Biking
This weekend is the Cliffhanger festival; and this years is set to be bigger and better than ever. Add in the amazing forecast for the weekend a beer tent and its all looking good for an awesome weekend!
This year see’s even more biking added to the programme and even gives you the opportunity to race too! Here are some of the highlights for you….
XC Eliminator While XCE seems to have a rather bad reputation at the moment, the plan is to show how this even can be done properly!…..
XC Eliminator is the newest Mtb discipline on the block, combining the speed and intensity of 4-Cross, with the tactics and endurance of XC. Run over a 500 metre obstacle strewn course, 4 riders start each 3 minute heat and the top 2 progress through to the next round until the field is whittled down to 4 riders to contest the final.
This is a British Cycling ranking race with categories for all riders spread over Saturday 6th July. (The XCE circuit will be open on the Sunday for people to ride demo bikes round, Saturday is just for competitors).
Each race is run on a first come, first served basis with a maximum of 24 riders per category (except the Under 13’s which has a maximum of 40). Contact midlands_xc@hotmail.co.uk if you wish to reserve your place before race day. To take part you must have a working mountain bike and a CE standard bicycle helmet. Access onto the course is only allowed once you have signed on and attached your number board to your bike. There is a 20 minute open practise session before each race commences.

Dual Slalom
The Dual Slalom race is another new event to Cliffhanger but not to ThisISheffield. These lads run an infamous winter dual series which keeps the skills of Sheffield’s mountain bike racers honed in the dark months. The 100m long downhill slalom course will be open to all to ride all weekend. You will be able to lay down your best time during the Sunday to try and qualify for the race later in the afternoon. The rest of the time the course will be open to the public who can use their own bikes, or try out one of the bikes provided at the event by in the try-outs areas.
Age limit is 16 and over.
PLEASE NOTE – Spiked and mud tyres are banned to keep racing even.
Other highlights…
There will also be cycle speedway with Sheffield Stars, a trials display from Extreme MTB Show, timber trails for kids, bike powered refreshments, bike try outs and for the very young there will even be a balance bike course! All this as well as the other Cliffhanger goodies….
