Fox Hagg Latest

Following stirling work by Steve Hardcastle and others, the redesignation of a popular bridleway to a footpath at Fox Hagg in the Rivelin Valley has been prevented.
Signs informing horse riders that it may not be suitable for inexperienced riders are to be installed.
However, the Local Access Forum discussions about the issue threw up a number of interesting opinions including the suggestion that a Traffic Regulation Order be used to stop cycles from using the path in order to protect walkers. While there is no prospect of this happening, it tells us a lot about how walkers see us. While much of their antipathy is completely unwarranted, there are blind corners on some of the Fox Hagg bridleways so proceed with care. Meeting either a walker or horse at speed can be a recipe for disaster and does considerable harm to our reputation. See here for suggestions about how to conduct yourself around horses. Whooaa there…..
