  • RADmires – New Crowd Funder Announced

    It’s official! At last nights’ 5th Birthday Meeting, we announced our latest Crowd Funder:

    RADmires

    After the massive success of Lady Cannings we are at it again, this time at Redmires, which sits between Stannage Edge and Sheffield City.

    First a little recap of what we achieved Lady Cannings:

    – First and currently only crowd funded mountain bike trail in the UK, possibly the world.
    – First dedicated mountain bike trail to be built in the Peak District National Park
    – Over 14,000 runs down in 14 weeks since it opened on Strava alone
    – £75,000 raised between crowd funding, local business donations and Go Outdoors major contribution to complete Phase 1 and the additional trails to be built in 2016. (more…)

  • Shorelines Trail Day Incentive Scheme

    shorelines-logo-smallFor a while we have looked into the idea of doing some kind of incentive scheme for people who come along to our trail day, but it was something that we could never quite get right, up until now. Sure its nice to be altruistic, not to mention making the trails that you (and others) ride that bit sweeter, but it’s also nice to get a little back in return.

    Purveyors of Canadian bicycle goodness Shorelines Distribution have stepped in this year to help out with trail days. They are already making sure that we are fed, watered and looked after on our trail days, they have also come up with an incentive scheme too. (more…)

  • Lady Cannings Trail Closed

    image1The felling work to put in the forest access track has been a little quicker and more substantial than we had been informed and sadly because of the nature of some of the work we are going to have to temporarily close the trail.

    While a temporary entrance had been cut in by the contractors to allow access to the trail, it if far below the standard we would expect and it is this temporary access that is causing us some problems. There have been large quantities of the dark organic mud pulled onto the trail as riders have ridden through the temporary access trail, this may not seem like a big problem, but the dark organic soil holds a lot of moisture on the trail, softening it and making it more susceptible to erosion, it also makes the surface more slippery and unpredictable (it is also why it’s not great if you are pushing up through the edge of the trail) (more…)

  • Lady Cannings Felling Work

    RideSheffieldHeaderLadyCanningsWhile Lady Cannings is a fantastic place to ride you bike, it is also still a working woodland. There have been several phases of logging over the past few years, some of it for ecological reasons to increase the biodiversity, some to get rid of unstable timber and some of it for commercial use (funds from which go to supporting ancient woodland in other parts of the city)

    The next couple of phases of trail work in the woods will be completed once the next phase of felling is done. There are also other plans for the woods, including a circuit for horse riders. But the first phase of the felling is about to start in the next week. (more…)

  • November Trail Day

    P1000023Our next trail day will be taking place on Sunday the 8th of November on Blacka Moor. We will be working on the Devils Elbow to make sure it can cope with the rigors of winter.

    We will be meeting at 10 am near the stables on Shorts Lane and will be working on the trail until approximately 2 pm. Lunch will be provided for all that attend thanks to Shore Lines. Please let us know if you plan to attend via the Facebook Event or by email at info@ridesheffield.org.uk

    A core part of Ride Sheffield’s work has been getting out and working on the trails, from Public Rights of Way to the MTB trails that we have developed over the past few year. We have always had a great response from the local riding community; it has also gone a long way in improving relations with other user groups and landowners too. (more…)

  • Lady Cannings: It’s your trail, name it!

    It’s now 3 months since the trail in Lady Cannings opened and we hope that you remain as blown away by it as we are. From the grand opening, the joy of the first ride (and how it keeps on getting better the more you ride it) and most importantly the feedback from you on how much you love the trail. It’s great to know that it is as good a ride for toddlers on their first ride as it is for Olympian’s and former World Champions!

    But the best thing about Lady Cannings is that it is there because of the generosity and hard work of the riding community. We really can’t thank you enough for making it possible for Bike Track to deliver such an awesome trail in Sheffield City Council’s woodland. Not only does it mean we have a great bit of trail, your crowd funding brought in Go Outdoors who will very generously make the full loop  a reality. Not only that but it provides a template for what can be achieved not only in different parts of the city, but the country too. (more…)

  • Greno Woods: Temporary Trail Closures

    DSC_0173Starting on Monday 28th of September for a period of about 12 week, Sheffield Wildlife Trust (the land owners) will be carrying out a number of woodland management operations in the area.

    Details of exactly which trails are closed at any one time will be available on site. Alternatively, riders can contact c.doar@wildsheffield.com or r.mosley@wildsheffield.com for updates. Trails will be opened at weekends whenever possible. (more…)

  • Lady Cannings Trail is now open

    The wait is finally over! This Tuesday Steve Peat and Annie Last joined Ride Sheffield, Go Outdoors and friends to officially open the Lady Cannings Trails on the edge of Sheffield. From the cutting of the ribbon to well past sunset it was then  christened by the riders who have all dug into their pockets to raise over fifteen thousand pounds; making the UK’s first ever crowd funded trail a reality. And given the buzz up on the trails it has been a resounding success! (more…)

  • Lady Cannings – Opens Tuesday!

    funded this way – is built and nearly ready for riding. A HUGE
    thankyou to all of you who dug deep and handed over some cash for the
    trail. The crowd funding element raised OVER FIFTEEN THOUSAND POUNDS
