This coming Saturday the 14th of December we are going to be heading up to Parkwood Springs MTB circuit to give it a bit of an early Christmas present!
Bike Track are going to be carrying out some routine maintainance over the next few weeks, so we don’t need to concern ourselves with the actual track itself. But we are going to do our best to give the site a good tidy up and along with the ranger service, we will also be helping plan some trees too. (more…)
In the past we have been a bit short notice on our digging days, so from now on we will try to get dates in on a quarterly basis.
We also want to be clear on what we do too. So if you seen that we are doing a Dig Day, that means we are working on bike specific trails. That will often mean more technical work and are a good way to learn your craft in trail work. These will usually be on the second saturday of the month. If we are doing a Trail Day that means we will be working on rights of way. This work may be done solely by ourselves or in partnership with the Wildlife Trust, Eastern Moors Partnership, SCC etc. (more…)
Bike Track and Aline Coaching have been working hard in Greno all week and will be up there doing the same next week too. It’s all looking amazing, so we thought we would give you a sneak peek of what has been done so far.
But most importantly is that the work may look finished, but it is all a little soft and needs bedding properly before we ride it. Not only that but some trails are totally unfinished and you may find big holes, soft ground, big diggers and people wielding chainsaws where you would not normally expect to find them. So for your safety please give Greno a miss for the next couple of weeks. We will post up when it’s all clear to go and flow your way through these rad trails (more…)

OK, pick yourself up off the floor, I know it’s a shock. Those two words don’t coincide nearly often enough but that’s exactly what we’re going to get – new bridleways.
While the debate of where you should be able to ride will continue to rage; there is no escaping the fact that if you want to stay on the right side of the law there are specific rights of way where we can and can’t go.
This isn’t going to be a lecture on where you should be riding, but we have had a request from the Wildlife Trust asking for riders to stay of a particular footpath on Blacka Moor and stick to the bridleways around Wimble Holme Hill (more…)
The Rights of Way Team have been doing a bit of work up on Houndkirk and Jumbles Road over the past week or so, but before you panic, this is all very simple repair work, rather than full on resurfacing, with the main aim being to keep the standing water off the Byways. Ten days ago we launched our crowd sourcing project to raise money to build trails in Lady Canning’s Plantation. It’s an excellent site, with great soil and located on the edge of the Peak Park (half of the woods are in the national park) but is a 4 mile traffic free ride from Hunters Bar
Since we launched the project we have been inundated with a couple of things; primarily money! Yes you have been amazing and we have been quite overwhelmed by the support and the good feeling in the Sheffield (and beyond) MTB community, with individuals giving anything from £5 to £100! It has meant that in a short amount of time we have raised just over £2000
The other thing we have had quite a few of is questions! So hopefully we can answer a few of them here….. (more…)
Cy Turner has been busy and is ready to announce an exciting idea which could become a model for funding new trails all over the country.
For some years now there have been plans to build a blue/red level mountain bike circuit around Lady Cannings Plantation, a wooded area on the edge of Sheffield (location here: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=428560&Y=383385&A=Y&Z=120).
The idea behind the project is to promote and encourage mountain bike use and provide some fun, intermediate level trails in the Peak. This will hopefully make getting into the sport in our area a little less intimidating as new, inexperienced riders will have an option to develop their skills before stepping up to the pretty full on rocks and gullies of the Peak itself.
