  • Ride, Chat and Feedback: The RADtax Social

    There are always a number of ideas and projects on the go at Ride Sheffield, big and small, long term and short term, but one that has been slowly building over the past eighteen months has been RADtax. This is an idea that is crucial to the long term prospects of successful, sustainable (and growing) mountain biking in Sheffield.

    While other ideas may be a bit more exciting or glamorous or have the outcome of a new trail, for example, this has the potential to make a very big positive impact on the riding in the area. However, it is still currently a work in progress and to make sure that it is done in a way that benefits local riders and means that more people want to be part of it, we want your thoughts and feedback on it.   • GO Outdoors Grand Opening of ‘Cooking on Gas’ trail at Lady Canning’s

    The trails in Lady Cannings exist because of a lot of hardwork by numerous people, Sheffield City Council’s massive support and your contributions which made it possible. However, nothing would have happened without Go Outdoors having the confidence and vision to get behind the project by funding the last part of the Blue Steel Trail and all of Cooking on Gas. To celebrate that success, they will be holding a grand opening on the trail this weekend. Ride Sheffield will be there to chat about this and other projects, but this is Go Outdoors’ big celebration of all things mountain biking as you can read below….. (more…)

  • April Trail Day: Lady Cannings

    We love it, you love it and an awful lot of people ride it! Lady Cannings is certainly seeing a lot of action at the moment, so we thought it best to get up there and give it a little loving to keep it all running sweet…

    We will be up there this Saturday, the 22nd of April, from 10am onwards. We will be meeting in the car park on Sheephill Rd and then onwards on the trail.

  • Guess Who’s Back?

    Yes, the question that has been on a lot of peoples lips since last November can now be answered!

    Lady Cannings, Blue Steel trail has finally reopened!

    While it has taken a little while longer than even we expected to have the trail reopened, we have had to battle with much greater damage to the trail by the foresters than we had expected, coupled with a very wet January and February, not to mention a couple of substantial storms that have left downed trees and hung up branches everywhere. So, all things considered, to us it feels like a result to have it opening now. (more…)

  • Lady Cannings – Closure Updates

    15401073_942447955886644_2239604080650855017_nSometimes things don’t always go to plan! Having Lady Cannings back up and running before Christmas would appear to be one of those things I’m afraid. Sorry!

    With a promise that the foresters would be our of the woods by the beginning of December and reinstatement works penned into start this week have unfortunately sailed past us without any action. Not to mention that the trail and the woods have had more damaged caused to them that was planned for has meant that things have been pushed back even further!

    So where is the good news?

    Well it can’t all be bad can it! We will be rolling into 2017 with a fresh start and Bike Track will be on the ground to start the reinstatement, full of mince pies, fired up and ready to go! There will be a full and substantial reinstatement of the Blue Steel Trail as well as the Bridleway too. Once this is done they will be rolling into starting work on sections 2 and 3 of the Go Outdoors funded Lady Cannings loop (and may well even be delivering Lady C a sibling on the other side of the hill too later in the year!)   • October Trail Day – Lady Cannings

    cannings 1After a great summers riding, it is time to start looking towards making sure things are looking in good shape moving into winter, so we are back into trail day season. we will be starting off up at Lady Cannings this Saturday the 8th at 10am

    While it has weathered amazingly well, there are a few jobs that we would like to get done to keep its running prime. Nothing to taxing, just a little raking, and patching (barrowing and spade work) but the more people that turn up the more that we should be able to get done. (more…)

  • Trail Days – Autumn/Winter

    cannings 2With this seasons fashions starting off with an attractive golden orangey brown look, eventually letting the browns, blacks and greys have their moment in (out) of the sun. So we thought it was probably best that we re commence with our trail days to make sure that the trail keep running sweetly and as sustainably as possible.

  • Lady Cannings – Forestry Work

    cannings 1You may well have seen some signs up on site at Lady Cannings about some forthcoming forestry works. So we thought we better fill you in with a little more information .

    The felling works are expected to begin at the start of October and the duration will be a little weather dependant. We will post up again when we have precise details about what is going on. But for now here are the important bits that you need to know….. (more…)

  • Lady Cannings is One!

    Time flies when you are having fun, especially when that fun is beautifully flowing singletrack that is on your doorstep. Growing from a fledgling project that was actually discussed at the very first Ride Sheffield Meeting six years ago, it is now part of the fabric of the city and one of the most used trails in the area!

    With almost 14,000 runs down it recorded on Strava, this really only tells part of the story, firstly because that is only one app and a lot of people do not use any form of tracking app at all, so my statistician friends will be able to give me a much higher estimate. But really its not the numbers that are important, its how people feel about the trail and how it has impacted on their riding. Its great that it has provided an access point for more people into the sport, that it offers a place to progress your riding before heading further out into the Peak or into Greno or Wharncliffe. That it has taught us that a little flow in our lives is a great supplement to our gritstone diet. Some of the best things that we have seen up there have been the number of families and kids up on the trail. We have even heard of a few kids using the trail for their birthday parties (which is an improvement on bowling!) Sure we have had a couple of little teething problems, but in general it has been a great first year. (more…)
