  • February Trail Day – Fox Hagg/Rivelin

We are back to our trail days after a break for Christmas we are back at it again, not only that but we will be returning to a new spot.

We have had quite a few requests to work on the Bridleway that runs from Fox Hagg to Rivelin Reservoir, namely the perma-bog at the end of the flat section before the descent down to the reservoir. It a SWT nature reserve so getting permission has taken longer than normal, but we are all good to go now. (more…)

  • Save It For Summer!

Keep singletrack single and keep smiling!

“Summertime and the living is easy, bikes are jumping and the stoke is high, your riding’s pinned and the trail’s good looking, hush now dude, don’t you sigh….” (more…)

  • Ride Sheffield Winter Social Goes Down A Storm

The Ride Sheffield Winter Social at a new venue and the weather decides to come over all biblical. Will anyone turn up?

I guess we really should have more faith. The Sheffield mountain biking community isn’t going to be put off by head high floods on Abbeydale Road, they love a challenge. So much so that something like a hundred hardy souls made it to The Holt which, thankfully, catered admirably to the gently steaming horde as they dried out prior to the meeting proper.

Fortified with chilli and a refreshing pint of Magic Rock, everyone tuned in as Henry Norman outlined just how much Ride Sheffield volunteers have achieved in the last year and big plans for the future. (more…)

  • Sheffield Ski Village Rises Again?

The almost finished bridge at the end of Eh Up Line!

It’s been almost five years since Sheffield Ski village was burned to the ground. While a little rough around the edges and certainly a little past its prime, it still provided a haven for Sheffield’s snow sports lovers, not to mention providing a testing ground for a few Olympians in the process too. Flying somewhere under the radar was the plans to development mountain biking on the site too (with the hope that it would compliment the XC loop being built at Parkwood) (more…)

  • Lady Cannings – Closure Updates

15401073_942447955886644_2239604080650855017_nSometimes things don’t always go to plan! Having Lady Cannings back up and running before Christmas would appear to be one of those things I’m afraid. Sorry!

With a promise that the foresters would be our of the woods by the beginning of December and reinstatement works penned into start this week have unfortunately sailed past us without any action. Not to mention that the trail and the woods have had more damaged caused to them that was planned for has meant that things have been pushed back even further!

So where is the good news?

Well it can’t all be bad can it! We will be rolling into 2017 with a fresh start and Bike Track will be on the ground to start the reinstatement, full of mince pies, fired up and ready to go! There will be a full and substantial reinstatement of the Blue Steel Trail as well as the Bridleway too. Once this is done they will be rolling into starting work on sections 2 and 3 of the Go Outdoors funded Lady Cannings loop (and may well even be delivering Lady C a sibling on the other side of the hill too later in the year!) • And Now A Word From Our Sponsors….

It's a great place to ride, let's look after it....
It’s a great place to ride, let’s look after it….

Hi there, it’s Dad here. Oh, you didn’t know that was my new nickname? Yeah, I posted something on Facebook the other day that fell firmly into the ‘no-shit-sherlock’ category and was both taken to task for preaching to the converted and called Dad. (more…)

  • All you need to know about the Winter Social

Ride-Sheffield-SocialIts our winter social next Monday the 21st of November, so we thought it was about time to fill you in on a few of the key details for the night. It will be out 6th winter social and traditionally we have always held it in the Lescar, but it has seemed a bit too cramped for the past couple of years, so we will be holding this years event at The Holt, which is a new cafe and creative space in Sheffield. It is in town, so hopefully it will be a bit easier for everyone to get to. If you were wondering “Where is it?“, directions can be found here, but basically it is on Arundel Street, just behind Decathlon. (more…)

  • November Trail Day – Blacka

Exif_JPEG_PICTUREFor this months trail day we will be returning to the Devils Elbow on Saturday the 5th, to make sure it is all clear and ready for winter.

Last year we did a lot of work re-establising the drains up there as well as tidying up a few of the existing ones. This will be the main focus of the work again, as well as trying to address the spring near the very top of the trail (though this may be a little hard to find at the moment!) (more…)

  • Winter Social 2016

Another year has flown by, Ride Sheffield is now six years old, Lady Cannings is one and a bit, RADmires is well on the way to being built, lots of meetings have been attended and mountain biking is even more established as a key part of this Outdoor City.

It also means that it is time for our winter social! So on Monday the 21st of November we will be meeting in The Holt, which is a great new venue in town. For the past couple of years we have been a bit squashed in the Lescar, so we thought it was good to give people a bit more breathing space, it also means we can have a better format, making it a bit easier for you to talk to us and let us know what direction you want us to be going in for the coming year as well as having more time to talk amongst yourselves.
