Improving access is a big part of what Ride Sheffield is about and we have been very fortunate to have seen a number of rights of way made accessible for mountain bikers in the Sheffield Moors. So it is great to see that British Cycling has got behind the drive to open up countryside paths for people on bikes. Even more heartening is that it has gained support from a number of other outdoor groups including the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Welsh Sports Association, the British Mountaineering Council and the British Horse Society. This may only just be the beginning, but it is something we have been moving towards for a nu,amber of years and is a great leap forward.

I miss the Fast Show, particularly Paul and Harry’s piss take of the 4×4 fraternity. Two cammo clad numpties explaining the day’s mission, exclaiming “Let’s off road!” and promptly burying their vehicle up to the axles in mud.
As well as awesome trails and a great cycling community, Sheffield also has some pretty impressive research going on as well too. Sheffield Hallam’s Centre of Sports Engineering Research are looking for volunteers to take part in a study on body size. It does not take much time and you will get some pretty cool information about yourself at the end of it. For more information read on…..
