  • MTB Film Screenings

    Back in the days before our minds were continually melted by a non stop supply of shredits, we used to get the treat of a couple of times a year of heading down to the Showroom with a couple of hundred other riders to watch whatever feature length film was out at the time. As well as a cool communal experience, it was nice to be able to catch up with the MTB community too.

    Last year we were treated to the World Premier of Gamble, but that was a rare treat. However we now have a couple of films coming up in the next month, if you like that sort of thing.

    First up is The Moment, it’s about the history of free riding and how it has shaped our sport. Check out the trailer below. Its screened by Cycle to the Cinema at Decathlon on the 3rd of July

  • January Trail Day: Fox Hagg – New Date

    Our first trail day of the year will  be on Fox Hagg this coming Saturday the 26th of January.

    We will be meeting in the carpark by Rivelin Dams at 10 am and will be out on the trails for approximately 2-3 hrs. The trails are running pretty well, but we want to make sure they are ready for the full onslaught of winter kick is. We will be un-blocking drainage and making sure that the water stays off the trails

    We will provide lunch and snacks to keep your energy levels well stocked up provided by our trail day sponsors Bike-Track

    • Pleas dress appropriately for the work (especially if in fancy dress), stout boots and warm clothes recommend)

    A new venue and a new format, always a risky business, but the inevitable pre-meeting fears turned out to be completely unfounded. As usual, the good mountain biking folk of Sheffield and beyond turned out in force and the Workstation was packed for this year’s Ride Sheffield Winter Social and AGM. (more…)

  • December Trail Day: Cannings Christmas Special

    Well its our last trail day of the year and we thought it would be a good idea to have a festive special up in Lady Cannings this coming Saturday the 8th of December.

    We will be meeting in the carpark on SheepHill Road at 10 am and will be out on the trails for approximately 2-3 hrs. The trails are running pretty well, but we want to make sure they are ready for the full onslaught of winter kick is. We will be clearing leaf litter, un-blocking drainage, patching the trail and promoting the flow on both trails.

    As its Christmas, we will have some delicious mince piece to keep your energy levels well stocked up and our trail day sponsors Bike-Track have kindly agreed to buy you all a mulled wine or a pint (or whatever is your preference) in the Norfolk Arms after the work is completed. (more…)

  • Winter Social – 26th November 2018

    The Winter Social has long been a part of the fabric of Ride Sheffield, it’s a great chance for us to tell you what we have been up-to and what we have planned for the coming year and more importantly, getting your thoughts and feedback on the direction we should be going in. But is also a good opportunity to catch up with friends, have a couple of beers and chat bikes, not to mention win great prizes in the quiz and raffle too.

    This year will be our 9th winter social (maybe we need a big party for our 10th birthday next year) and we have been trying to keep things fresh and interesting for you, to make it as enjoyable as possible. So what can you expect this year….? (more…)

  • March Trail Day and BBQ: Lady Canning

    It’s been great to give Lady Cannings trails a break over the past couple of weeks. It gives them time to rest and recover. Not to mention making it easy to do a little bit of trail work here and there. But nothing beats the solid effort of a trail day.

    This time as a little extra thank you to all our diggers/pruners/scrapers/rakers we will be having a bbq to round out the session and to celebrate the start of British Summertime!

    We will be heading upto Lady Cannings from 1300 onwards and will be eating about 1600.

    We will meet at the car park at 1300 and then after that on the trails (Blue Steel and CoG – the plan is to split into two teams). We will provide tools, but feel free to bring extras (barrows are particularly useful).

    While there will be food, you might want to bring water with you. Also please dress appropriately for the work.

    All help is greatly appreciated. See you Saturday!

    Please bear in mind that the trails will remain closed while we do the work and we will then review the closure after the work has been done and related to the weather forecast.

    Time: Saturday 24th March 1300 until 1600 (bbq time)

    Meet: Lady Cannings car park on Sheephill Rd at 1300 or after that on the trail

    Tools all provided (but extra wheelbarrows welcome)

    Bbq provided, though you may want to bring your own drinks. Also if you have dietary requirements (vegetarian etc) please let us know.

    Please wear clothing/footwear suitable for trailwork

    Happy mountain bikers!

    I can’t believe it! Seven Winter Socials? Have we really been going that long?
    Once again Ride Sheffield was lucky enough to have a crowd of enthusiastic mountain bikers turn out to hear the latest news, drink fine Sheffield beers, grab some great raffle prizes and prove that they’re sad bike nerds in the quiz.

    As usual, we were fortunate enough to have a lot of our greatest supporters in the room including John Dallow from SCC, Danny Udall from the Eastern Moors Partnership, Roy Mosley from Sheffield Wildlife Trust and Mike Sanderson from GoOutdoors. Without these guys, the Sheffield mountain biking community wouldn’t have made the enormous progress it has over the last seven years. (more…)

  • Ride, Chat and Feedback: The RADtax Social

    There are always a number of ideas and projects on the go at Ride Sheffield, big and small, long term and short term, but one that has been slowly building over the past eighteen months has been RADtax. This is an idea that is crucial to the long term prospects of successful, sustainable (and growing) mountain biking in Sheffield.

    While other ideas may be a bit more exciting or glamorous or have the outcome of a new trail, for example, this has the potential to make a very big positive impact on the riding in the area. However, it is still currently a work in progress and to make sure that it is done in a way that benefits local riders and means that more people want to be part of it, we want your thoughts and feedback on it.   • Peaty’s Steel City DH: A Spectators Guide

    Peaty’s Steel City DH is a perfectly formed rough diamond is Sheffield’s sporting crown and has been running every spring since 2011. Organised by Peaty (and friends), it takes all the best bits of MTB races that Steve has experienced around the world and puts them into a small woods in Grenoside.

    It has become know as ‘the biggest little race in the world’ and for good reason; It is massively popular with racers, selling out in a matter of minute. It allows rippers (aged 11-12) to race the same course as world champions such as Steve Peat and Tracy Moseley, it also boasts one of the biggest fields of female competitors nationally too.

    Beyond the racers, there is one aspect that has cemented the races reputation as a must do event nationally and that is the atmosphere. With crowds of over 3000 attending the event, the buzz is second to none.
