Ride Sheffield, Peak District Mountain Biking, Friends of the Peak District (FoPD), Keeper of the Peak and the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) met with Derbyshire County Council (DCC) today, Dec 2. Time is rolling itself round to the end of another year, which can only mean that we are approaching this years Ride Sheffield Winter Social. So on Monday the 24th of November we will be taking to our usual venue of the Lescar on Sharrowvale Road, to chat about what we have been up to over the past year; but more importantly for you to tell us what you would like us to be focusing on next year. Had a really nice chat with Danny Udall this morning – lots of positive stuff about mountain bikers, then he told me about an incident on Froggatt, saturday where a mountain biker shoulder charged a walker. Let’s just say it wiped the smile off my face. This isn’t on….. (more…)
Ride Sheffield (RS) and Peak District MTB (PDMTB) members have been instrumental in persuading Derbyshire County Council that they must listen to the mountain bike community. On friday, we were contacted by DCC offering a meeting on Dec 2nd along with the the BMC, Friends of the Peak District/CPRE and Keeper of the Peak, co-signatories of last week’s Open Letter. (more…)
It’s been a busy couple of weeks since DCC started flattening yet another classic Peak District trail. During that time, much has been achieved. Thanks to the efforts of Peak District MTB, Ride Sheffield, @KoftheP and many others, a temporary halt has been called to the work. However, we’re pretty sure it’s only a matter of time before another bulk order of crushed gritstone is delivered and the diggers get to work again. (more…)
On Friday after an alert from Keeper of the Peak, a few photos started emerging of some work that was being done on the far end of Rushup Edge/Chapel Gate. Sadly it appeared to be the standard Derbyshire County Council job of removing any character from the Byway for no apparent reason! (more…)
The much-loved Bolehills BMX track probably sees as much action from mountain bikers as any trail in the local area, but like any trail they need a bit of TLC from time to time.
There is going to be a full program of dig days up at Bolehills over the coming months, but if you are free next Saturday, the 1st of November, from 0900 then head on over there.

Next Sunday, the 2nd of November, Peaty is getting together a lot of folks from the bike industry to sell off their kit at bargain prices, which sounds like a great thing to us. But even better than that, we will be there too!
So you will be able to stop by and chat to us about what we are working on at the moment. If you have any ideas which you would like to chat to us about, swing by the stand. We may even have stickers and Steel City Downhill pint glasses too!

While it may be something that most Sheffielder’s would agree on, it seems to be something that stands up to a bit of academic rigour too! This is a great bit of news for the city to finally see the council appreciating and promoting Sheffield as the outdoor Capital.

When it was first reported that the plantation in Burbage Valley was to be felled, some people were uneasy at the prospect of a much-loved landscape undergoing such radical change. The rationale behind the scheme was sound, the environmental benefits obvious but meddling with one of the Peak’s finest views was always going to stir up emotions.
