  • Trail Sabotage – Hope Cross/The Beast

    We’re chasing for further details, but the post mentions
    – small walls
    – logs and branches
    – wires

  • Oh what a tangled web….

    I’d been planning to pen a few words about the dangers of the worldwide web but, wouldn’t you know it, fate has stepped in to make it a necessity.  I recently posted a whimsical little piece on Ride Sheffield which gently poked fun at some of our hard-pressed public servants yet carried what I thought was a serious message.  My mistake was to forget that something written in the comfort of your own home with a cup of tea at your elbow looks different through the weird filter of the internet.  I was soon receiving emails from seriously unamused officialdom who had simply been doing their best in difficult circumstances.

  • Totley Hall Park Pump Track

    179661_477763785615678_77690851_nIn yet another thing Ride Sheffield have been involved in, Cy from Cotic Bikes led a project in which Cotic and Big Stone put up half the money to refurbish the derelict BMX track at Totley Hall Park into a pump track. Ride Sheffield were involved as we had to bid for grant funding from some local City trusts in order to raise 25% of the budget when the Council could only supply 25% themselves. (more…)

    The Rights of Way Team have been doing a bit of work up on Houndkirk and Jumbles Road over the past week or so, but before you panic, this is all very simple repair work, rather than full on resurfacing, with the main aim being to keep the standing water off the Byways.   • Free Security Bike Marking at Over-Ride Cycleworks

    Over-Ride cycleworks will be holding a free security bike marking event at their shop at 284 Shalesmoor, Sheffield on Saturday 16th March from 10.30am to 4pm in conjunction with South Yorkshire Police. This opportunity is open to anyone. You just need to take along your bike, the frame will be wiped, the police will give you a UV pen and ask you to write your house number and postcode somewhere on the frame. They will then cover it with a security skin. If the Police recover stolen bikes, those that are marked have a greater chance of being reunited with their owner. Take advantage of this free opportunity to protect your property. There will be further security advice available in store on the day.

    If evidence was required that the Peak District National Park Authority is taking cycling seriously it arrived in the form of the first ever Peak Park Cycling Summit held recently at Thornbridge Outdoors in Great Longstone.  Ride Sheffield should again take pride in the fact that we were invited to the meeting and, on a number of occasions, asked by fellow cyclists and organisations how we’d managed to get such a vibrant and effective group established so quickly to which the obvious reply was, well that’s Sheffield mountain bikers for you!
