Ride Sheffield volunteer Martin Clist recently joined other Eastern Moors enthusiasts for the latest stakeholder meeting which is a chance to discuss current issues on the estate and a means of bringing diverse user groups together. Here are his wise words:
Ride Sheffield has been helping the National Trust formulate it’s long term plan for the High Peak Moors which includes Kinder and the Derwent watershed. The masterplan has now been published and is available to read at http://www.high-peak-moors.co.uk either in its entirety or in summary form.

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) is calling on climbers, mountain bikers, walkers and everybody with a love for Stanage Edge, Derbyshire, to sign this petition to help safeguard its future.
Stanage is the most popular crag in Britain – maybe in the world – and a classic walking destination for millions of people who visit the Peak District every year. It’s also home to one of the best mountain bike descents in the area following the ancient packhorse route through the plantation. However, decisions are being made that could change it significantly – and we need your help to state our case. (more…)
Mountain bikers have been left furious once again after another Peak District trail is flattened in the name of ‘safety’. Wigley Lane runs from Longstone Edge to the village of Rowland and posed, until recently, a decent challenge. Now, exposed limestone bedrock has been covered with road-planings by Derbyshire County Council and technical singletrack has been converted into a flat, wide, all but uncontrollable descent. (more…)

What a great name for a piece of woodland – Wigtwizzle, I love it already and that’s before the fine folk of Sheffield City Council build a brand new bridleway through it. Where’s Wigtwizzle you might ask, as I did when Ride Sheffield HQ sent me on a mission to check out the proposed route for the new trail. Well it’s here and I had the pleasure of walking the new route just as summer officially ended and the heavens opened. However, who cares about being soaked to their underpants if it means we’re going to get a new trail. (more…)
