  • Russell’s Bicycle Shed At Parkwood Springs

    Great news for those of you who love a Saturday blast up at Parkwood, there is good news for those of you who are a bit heavy on the bike or the calories!

    Russell of Russell’s Bicycle Shed www.russellsbicycleshed.co.uk will be up at Parkwood Springs offering his services!

    Russell will be available to provide minor bicycle maintenance services and advice from 11am while 4pm, Saturday’s from 9th Feb 2013

    He will also be keeping you all fed and watered serving Tea, Coffee, Hot Vimto and Snacks

    Mucky bike? Take advantage of the bicycle washdown service too

    Location: Cooks Wood Road Car Park

    Russell’s Bicycle Shed is also available at Sheffield Station every Thursday from 7am, workshop located at 53 Mowbray Street, Sheffield – www.russellsbicycleshed.co.uk  –

     

     

  • Wimble Holme Hill Dig Day Details

    The next dig day on Wimble Holme Hill will take place on Sunday Feb 3rd.  We’re meeting at Stoney Ridge car park at 10am: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=206008473308135420983.0004cfef0043aabe5a03e&msa=0

    Should be a good day as we’re adding technical interest for mountain bikers.  The Eastern Moors Partnership have bent over backwards to accomodate the MB community so wielding a shovel is a great way of repaying their exemplary attitude.

    Big Stone (http://www.bigstone.co.uk/) will once again be providing lunch and the Eastern Moors gang always bring the tea urn.

  • You gotta dig dig days man….

    Dig Day Facts:

    1.  It’s not all digging and barrowing but lots of fetching and carrying, advising, revising and honing so we get a fun ride that will last.

    2.  The doughnuts are good.

    3.  Dig days are usually at the weekend, in other words, riding time so it’s perfectly understandable that people are reluctant to give up free time to dig.  However, don’t feel you have to volunteer to work all day, even an hour is a big help.  Just stop off in the middle of your ride, flex some different muscles and then ride on.  See it as a rest….   • Digging the Devil 2.0

    Here are the rescheduled plans for the work on the bottom of the Devils Elbow. We are planning to be out digging quite a bit this year, with this and the work on Wimble Holme Hill and very shortly up to Greno to finish off the work up there. But for now the Devils Elbow…

    If you are a regular down the Devils Elbow, you might have noticed that a couple of holes have appeared. It was always going to be hard for the original work to cover all the right bits, so we are going to help out with a bit of remedial work (more…)

    Keep your eyes peeled for details of an upcoming dig day on Wimble Holme Hill. All being well we’ll be putting the finishing touchs to the trail as there have been a number of volunteer days involving other groups. Should be a really good day.

  • Blacka RAG Meeting – Feedback

    At the end of November, I attended the Black Moor Reserves Advisory Group (RAG) meeting, along with John Horscroft and Henry Norman. For once mountain bikers had a decent representation at a meeting. John posted a quick writeup HERE, but now that the minutes have been circulated – I’ve put together a few more words. (more…)

  • Wimble Holme Hill Gets a Makeover

    There’s nothing I like more than an energetic dig day, but sitting in the car park on Blackamoor with the wind howling like a banshee, my enthusiasm hit a low ebb.  For one delicious moment I wondered if I was going to get away with it and that no one would turn up but I was ignoring Ride Sheffield volunteers’ well known hardiness.  At the appointed hour the cars rolled up and the team assembled wearing a who’s who of outdoor clothing manufacturers kit.  When the Eastern Moors Partnership team turned up bursting with enthusiasm, I knew the game was up.   • Ride Sheffield Social is well, sociable!

    Ride Sheffield’s second open meeting was once again standing room only as the local mountain bike community turned out in force.  The Lescar public house is rapidly turning into one of the local scene’s spiritual homes and the big turnout was rewarded by appearances from a number of people whose decisions affect our riding on a daily basis.   • Ride Sheffield Social

    Next monday the 26th of November will be our third social night, it’s going to be at the Lescar on Sharrow Vale road and will be starting at 7.30pm

    It kicks off with a bike jumble, so bring along any old parts that you no longer have use for and brush up on your haggling skills, it also gives you time before th meeting kicks off ay 8pm

  • Motocrosser’s in Greno

    Thanks to the hard work by the Wildlife Trust, biketrack.org and all of the volunteers who have being going up every month to work on the track; Greno Woods circuit edges nearer and nearer to completion. With a bit more work to be carried out on the third DH, a link to be added in by the Wildlife Trust, a bit of a tidy and then the signs will be going up. (more…)
